Cryogenic Deburring for Machined and Molded Bushings
A bushing is a bore and an edge — and the burr sits right where the shaft runs. Nitrofreeze removes it without touching the bore’s finish or its fit.
Can bushings be cryogenically deburred?
Yes — Nitrofreeze cryogenically deburrs machined and molded bushings at its Worcester, Massachusetts facility, in Delrin® (acetal), Torlon® (PAI), Vespel®, glass-filled nylon, PTFE and beryllium copper, among other materials. Machined burrs and molded flash are removed in the same computer-controlled process.
Will deburring affect the bore diameter or press-fit tolerances?
No. The Nitrofreeze process does not affect surface finish, geometry, or the material itself. Bore diameter, outside diameter and the press-fit and running tolerances a bushing is machined to stay exactly as inspected — only the burr breaks away at its root.
What about burrs at bore edges, grooves and cross-holes?
Bore-edge burrs, oil grooves and cross-holes are where hand deburring a bushing is slowest and least repeatable. The Nitrofreeze process carries media through the part, reaching internal edges, grooves and intersecting holes in the same cycle as the outside.
What bushings does this work for?
Nitrofreeze deburrs plain bushings, flanged bushings, sleeve and thrust bushings, bearing cages and wear components for aerospace, fluid-power, automotive, electronics and industrial customers — high-value machined PAI and polyimide parts included.
How small — and how large — can parts be?
Nitrofreeze processes parts from 0.025″ with thin walls up to 12″ × 12″ in its cryogenic machines — and there is no upper limit on part size: larger parts route to dry ice deflashing or hand finishing. There is no minimum order quantity; runs are subject to a $125 minimum lot charge.
What’s the turnaround and typical cost?
The first run of a new bushing part is treated as a sample: five-day turnaround, free, as Nitrofreeze’s Pre-Production Engineering Evaluation. Once the customer approves the process, production orders turn around in as little as two days after receipt, with same-day and one-day service available for a small premium. Large volume orders typically require more time to process. Deburring typically runs 10–20% of the value of the part.
Is Nitrofreeze ITAR registered and ISO certified?
Yes. Nitrofreeze is registered with the U.S. Department of State’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) as a manufacturer/exporter under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and is certified to ISO 9001:2015 by NQA with a scope that names cryogenic deburring and deflashing.
