Cryogenic Deburring For Machined Parts

The Cryogenic Institute of New England, Inc. provides removal of burrs from machining operations as a service to our customers. The process we utilize is called cryogenic deburring and it has proven to be one of our most successful service offerings. We have processed millions of individual parts and thousands of designs since we first started offering our cryogenic deburring service in 2003.

Cryogenic Deburring protects the integrity of your parts: Cryogenic deburring is a quick and cost-effective process that allows for the complete removal of machine burrs without affecting the surface finish or geometry of the part. Cryogenic deburring is a safe, clean, and cost effective alternative to traditional hand, vibratory or tumbling methods. Parts are placed in a chamber, rapidly cooled and impacted with polycarbonate media. The machine burrs become frozen (or brittle) and are removed quickly and cleanly by the passing non-abrasive polycarbonate media. Little to no dust or residue remains. Only the offensive burrs are removed, and edges are maintained without rounding or other material removal.

Cryogenic Deburring works for many materials:  Cryogenic deburring is available for most machined parts, especially on engineered materials and composites. We have many cases of successful burr removal on parts machined from plastics, polymers, nylons, delrin, Teflon, polypropylene, polycarbonate, ABS, PET, HDPE, PEEK, DAP, Tefzel, PPS, Viton, Torlon, CTFE, Liquid Crystal Polymer, PH Stainless Steels and Beryllium Copper.  The process is computer controlled, so results are repeatable and reliable. We feature many medical devices and other high value precision components within our vast array of successful cryogenic deburring applications.

Cryogenic deburring is an economical and high quality alternative: The cost to cryogenically deburr parts can range from less than .01 cent to several dollars apiece. As a general rule of thumb, the cost is between 10% and 20% of the value of the part, although each part must be considered on its individual characteristics. We always beat labor-intensive manual or hand deburring of parts by a handsome margin. This is true not only in terms of cost per part processed, but also in quality! Our automated process produces consistent part-to-part results, unlike variations produced by individual operators attempting hand deburring. (And no need to worry about cut fingers that drive up lost time and workers compensation expenses.)

Cryogenic deburring removes recessed burrs in blind and through holes. Because we use a range non-abrasive polycarbonate media that is sized from 0.015” (smallest) to 0.060” (largest), we are able to reach “inside” the most demanding part geometry to remove internal machine burrs. When appropriate, we are expert in developing low cost custom fixtures to ensure burr removal in blind and through holes and other recessed areas of your parts geometry.

Our cryogenic deburring service is fast: The standard turnaround time for delivery of our cryogenic deburring service is two days after receipt. We also offer same day and one-day service for a small premium.

No deburring job is too large or small: We support prototype shops that are working with small quantities as well as high volume production quantities. Part sizes vary from 0.025” with thin walls to much larger parts that measure in many inches and have much more mass.

Send us your samples: We are happy to provide a no-cost or obligation assessment of your machine burr problem. We can review part drawings, photos and actual samples of machined parts. We are happy to evaluate parts on a not-to-exceed cost basis if you have a target cost in mind. And we are always happy to talk with you on the phone when you call 800 739 7949 toll free or 508 459 7447 or you can e-mail us at info@nitrofreeze.com.

Cryogenic Deburring Equipment Sales: As an independent cryogenic deburring service provider, we are able to offer expert advice, consulting, engineering, training and cryogenic deburring equipment to customers that choose to bring their deburring requirements in-house. By working with us, you will be able to model the cost of using a contract service provider for deburring versus doing it yourself in-house and we support this migration when it makes sense for our customers. Call today to learn more: 800 739 7949 or 508 353 6701 or e-mail info@nitrofreeze.com.

For higher quality and lower costs, outsource your deburring problems to us! Our unique technology gives you a competitive advantage!
