Cryogenic Deflashing

Cryogenic Deflashing For Molded Parts
The Cryogenic Institute of New England, Inc. provides removal of flash from molded parts as a service to our customers. The process we utilize is called cryogenic deflashing and it has proven to be one of our most successful service offerings. We have processed millions of individual parts and thousands of designs since we first started offering our cryogenic deflashing service in 2003.
Cryogenic deflashing protects the integrity of your parts: Our fast, efficient process provides complete removal of flash without affecting the surface finish. Cryogenic deflashing is a safe, clean, and cost effective alternative to traditional methods. Parts are placed in a chamber, rapidly cooled, tumbled and impacted with polycarbonate media. Flash is removed quickly and cleanly. No dust or residue remains.
Cryogenic Deflashing works on most molded parts: Cryogenic deflashing is available for all molded parts, including plastics, polymers, nylons, rubbers, silicones, polyurethane, neoprene, liquid crystal polymer, urethane, viton, nitrile, butyl, DAP, ABS, PEEK, and aluminum zinc die cast and precision elastometric parts. The process is computer controlled, so results are repeatable and reliable. We feature many medical devices and other high value precision components within our vast array of successful cryogenic deflashing applications.
Cryogenic Deflashing can extend mold die life: In other instances, parts that are near end-of-life are being molded on old and worn dies that have deteriorated in critical areas, resulting in the undesirable flash. Rather than invest in an expensive new or repaired die tool, customers elect to extend the functional life of their die tool by adding the additional step of cryogenic deflashing for finishing the part and removing the flash. It is more economical solution to pay only a slight premium per each deflashed part than to invest in a tool that will only have a limited production life.
Cryogenic deflashing is fast and affordable: The cost to process parts can range from less than .01 cent to several dollars apiece. As a general rule of thumb, the cost is between 10% and 20% of the value of the part, although each part must be considered on its individual characteristics. We always beat labor-intensive manual or hand deflashing of parts by a handsome margin. The standard turnaround time for delivery of our cryogenic deflashing service is two days after receipt. We also offer same day and one-day service for a small premium.

No deflashing job is too large or small: We support mold prototype shops that are working with small quantities as well as high volume production quantities. Part sizes vary from 0.025” with thin walls to much larger parts that measure in many inches and have much more mass.
Send us your samples: We are happy to provide a no-cost or obligation assessment of your mold flash problem. We can review part drawings, photos and actual samples of molded parts. We are happy to evaluate parts on a cost not-to-exceed basis if you have a target cost in mind. And we are always happy to talk with you on the phone when you call 800 739 7949 toll free or 508 459 7447 or e-mail us at info@nitrofreeze.com.
Cryogenic Deflashing Equipment Sales: As an independent cryogenic deflashing service provider, we are able to offer expert advice, consulting, engineering, training and cryogenic deflashing equipment to customers that choose to bring their deflashing requirements in-house. By working with us, you will be able to model the cost of using a contract service provider for deflashing versus doing it yourself in-house and we support this migration when it makes sense for our customers.
