What materials can Nitrofreeze cryogenically deflash and deburr?

Nitrofreeze cryogenically deflashes and deburrs most engineering plastics and elastomers, and metals carrying fine burrs, at its Worcester, Massachusetts facility. Each material below has its own page covering the part types it suits, size limits, turnaround, cost and certifications.

Is deflashing or deburring the right process for my material?

Both use the same cryogenic process. Deflashing removes parting-line flash and gate vestige from molded parts; deburring removes the burrs left by machining, stamping or forming. Many parts carry both, and a single run takes them off together.

Is there any material Nitrofreeze will not take?

One: UHMWPE. That is the complete exclusion list. Size is not an exclusion either — parts larger than the 12″ × 12″ cryogenic machine route to dry ice deflashing or hand finishing rather than being turned away.

What if my material is not on this list?

The list above is what Nitrofreeze runs most often, not the limit of what it processes — most rubbers, plastics and composites have been run successfully. Send the material and the part and Nitrofreeze confirms it on the first sample run, before you commit to anything.

How small — and how large — can parts be?

Nitrofreeze processes parts from 0.025″ with thin walls up to 12″ × 12″ in its cryogenic machines — and there is no upper limit on part size: larger parts route to dry ice deflashing or hand finishing. There is no minimum order quantity; runs are subject to a $125 minimum lot charge.

What’s the turnaround and typical cost?

The first run of a new part is treated as a sample: five-day turnaround, free, as Nitrofreeze’s Pre-Production Engineering Evaluation. Once the customer approves the process, production orders turn around in as little as two days after receipt, with same-day and one-day service available for a small premium. Large volume orders typically require more time to process. Deflashing and deburring typically run 10–20% of the value of the part.

Is Nitrofreeze ITAR registered and ISO certified?

Yes. Nitrofreeze is registered with the U.S. Department of State’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) as a manufacturer/exporter under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and is certified to ISO 9001:2015 by NQA with a scope that names cryogenic deburring and deflashing.
