Fluorosilicone Cryogenic Deflashing: Clean Results Without Damaging Critical Sealing Surfaces

Fluorosilicone components are used in aerospace, automotive, medical, and industrial sealing applications because of their excellent resistance to fuels, oils, and harsh chemicals. However, fluorosilicone parts often leave the molding press with excessive flash that must be removed before they can be put into service, like many other rubber molded parts.

Cryogenic deflashing provides a fast, repeatable, and non-abrasive solution for removing this undesirable flash.

Why Use Cryogenic Deflashing on Fluorosilicone Parts?

Cryogenic deflashing yields consistent results across large production runs utilizing a repeatable batch process. Manual trimming does not provide repeatable results because there will be inconsistencies part to part and operator to operator.

Benefits include:

  • Removes flash without damaging the part
  • Improves consistency from part to part
  • Reduces labor & processing time
  • Ideal for complex geometries that are difficult to trim manually
  • Adaptable for both prototype and high-volume production

Before & After Results

Below are before and after photos demonstrating the difference. The molded fluorosilicone parts contain significant flash around the outer perimeter and gate locations. After cryogenic deflashing, the excess material was removed while preserving the part’s geometry and sealing surfaces. Clear and clean edges remain once the flash has been removed.

Before: The molded fluorosilicone part exhibits excess flash along the outer edges and around molded features. The part remains attached to the runner system and requires secondary deflashing before it is ready for use.

After: The flash has been completely removed, leaving a clean, uniform edge ready for inspection, assembly, or shipment. The finished parts maintain their original shape while meeting the appearance and quality standards expected for precision sealing components.
